Since its origins, steeped in myth - some legends attribute its foundation to Jocastus, son of Aeolus, others connect it to the passage of Hercules in the region - Reggio Calabria has always been at the centre of the trade routes of the ancient world and, over the centuries, a crossroads of peoples and people, a melting pot of different cultures, knowledge, artistic traditions.
From the splendors of Magna Graecia to the present day, the city of Reggio has always welcomed and made its own the echoes and testimonies of the most diverse civilizations, enriching itself over time with splendid monuments and transforming itself into an inexhaustible source of inspiration for its many artists and artisans.
It is in this unique context in the world that in the 1960s, in the midst of the economic boom, the young Paolo Vale opened a jewelry store in via Sbarre Centrali, soon starting to assist customers with special needs and gaining a leading position among the city's goldsmiths: the store became a popular point of reference for the most important and prestigious occasions for purchases and gifts and Paolo Vale, strong in the experience and reputation he had acquired, began to caress the idea of his own brand.
It was his son Angelo , once he graduated from the School of Art for Goldsmiths in Valenza, who made this dream come true, founding Van Gold in 1987, which from the very beginning stood out for its high quality standards, its modern design yet characterised by classic features, attention to every detail and mastery of execution.
After more than thirty years, the fundamental values and philosophy of the company have remained unchanged: today as then, Van Gold jewels are the timeless emanation of the historical and artistic heritage of the Reggio area, they update its traditions and symbolism and continue to express its incomparable beauty through the balance of volumes, the harmony of colours, the sure taste in the choice of materials and gems.
Gems themselves – and in particular precious ones, diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds – are the undisputed protagonists of Van Gold creations: Paolo Vale , a qualified gemologist, representing the third generation of the family together with his sister Carola , a designer – personally searches for them at international auctions and fairs, selecting the best quality ones. The cuts are designed to enhance the brightness and purity of each individual stone, while the settings are handcrafted by expert craftsmen.
Carola Vale deals with the design of different jewels, starting from market research and the study of fashion trends, intercepting the changes taking place in customs and society and translating them into original and lively jewels, with distinctive features, but with a classic soul that makes them timeless and perfect for celebrating the important occasions and moments of life.
